I must admit that I have not always been the person to set goals for my business. In fact, although I have multiple businesses, I just really just went along with the flow. If we made money, great, if not, I wasn’t happy, but it still didn’t strike me that it was something I could do about it. That was not until I started following other business owners that were making way more money than me and they credited their main reason for success as setting goals regularly.
I began to ask myself questions such as how do I know if my business is growing? What are some things I can do differently to make sure that my business is growing and for it to start bringing in more profits?
So I have decided, that in order for me to be more successful in 2019 that I need to start setting goals for my business. However, I know that setting goals that are not SMART goals are a waste of time. So what are SMART goals?
SMART goals are goals that are:
For example, instead of just saying I want to make more money in 2019. I would say: I want to make $10,000 for at least 5 months of the year. I would like to have my first 5-figure month by March 31, 2019.
Now some may say is this realistic, for your business it might not be realistic, but for mine, it is because I have actually had months where I have made over $7,000 and a couple of months where I have made over $9,000 but did not hit the 5 figure threshold.
