One of the hardest things I have experienced in starting a business or a new project has always been where to start. In most cases, it's hard to determine where to start because we have no idea of where we are going. I have started several businesses in my time, some successful and some not so successful. It wasn't until recently that I figured out what I really wanted to do and it came to me as a crystal clear vision and its almost like destiny for me.
Before I tell you about your clear vision and how to find it, let me give you a little back story about me.
I'm the type of person that wants to try her hand at everything creative, however, everything isn't for everyone. Growing up, I always wanted to be a teacher and a fashion designer. You can ask any of my friends and they will tell you exactly that. So what did I do? I became a family and consumer science teacher (the best combination of both in my opinion), started designing and sewing clothes, had a failed fashion show, and then started re-evaluating everything.
As a teacher, you never have any money and you need EVERYTHING for your classroom and your students, so I began coming up with creative fundraisers so that I could afford things for my classroom like paper, pencils, supplies, equipment and everything else I thought was necessary for my students to be successful. Of course, all of my ideas involved some sort of creativity and crafting. We sold baked goods, button earrings, tee shirts, spirit ribbons, tote bags, and anything else that was craft related. This also led to the name of Da Goodie Shop because teachers/students would always say "Mrs. J, where da goodies at??" and that feeling just stayed with me.
Of all the things that I have done and tried, the tee shirts kind of stuck. I loved designing, I loved seeing people wear things that I had designed and then I discovered those same designs could be used in different ways. So I started designing and producing shirts for all of the clubs within my school and that became a fundraiser for my students as well. As a school club, we would design and sell other school club tees and paraphernalia. It was amazing!!!
Hence, Da Goodie Shop was born. A creative shop that produces custom and personalized products for any and every occasion.
I had to really look deep inside and figure out what it was that I truly enjoyed doing. Even though Da Goodie Shop is extremely successful, I still didn't believe that it was what I thought I should be doing. So I guess by now you are wondering what the hell is my clear vision??? My clear vision and ultimate destiny are that I should be doing what I have known all along from my childhood with a twist. I AM AND SHALL ALWAYS BE A TEACHER AND A DESIGNER
Now you probably want to know how I figured it out?? I completed a simple skill/ability inventory and that's what I ended up with in the end. But guess what? I am going to share the same worksheets with you so that your vision can become clear as well.
Ok, ok, so my question for you is do you have a clear vision of what you want to do, what kind of business you want to start, etc.? If not, grab the Finding Your Vision Workbook below and make that vision clear!!!
